OUR HISTORY
From Kelly Road to a Florida
'Great Place'.
Bayshore has been making an impact for more than 20 years. For a long time, people were told to steer clear. Neighbors, artists and small business owners kept showing up anyway. They painted murals, opened studios and restaurants, and pushed for public art, until the rest of Naples started paying attention.
1984
Kelly Road becomes Bayshore Drive
The road gets a new name, though its rough reputation hangs on for years.
1993
Naples Botanical Garden
The garden is established at the south end of the district.
2004
Bayshore CAPA
The Bayshore Cultural and Performing Arts Center is founded.
2017
The Mermaid makes a splash
Marcus Zotter’s mural on the Mermaid Building becomes a landmark, as new businesses build up the district’s profile.
2021
A boardwalk to Sugden Park
A boardwalk connecting Bayshore Drive to Sugden Park is approved.

Arsenault paints Bayshore
Famed artist Paul Arsenault of Arsenault Gallery paints the Bayshore Arts District.
2000
The county steps in
Collier County creates the Bayshore Gateway Triangle Community Redevelopment Agency to fund infrastructure, beautification and new development.
2012
Three60 Market
Rebecca Maddox opens Three60 Market.
2018
The mural fight
Murals bloom along Bayshore and county regulators push back with a moratorium on new ones. The district keeps advocating for public art.
2022
A Florida ‘Great Place’
Bayshore Drive tops the state in the American Planning Association’s Great Places in Florida awards.
2024
The Studios @ Bayshore
Fundraising events and generous donations totaling over $60,000 in one year secure a landmark loft-style space for artists.
1991
The Real Macaw opens
One of Naples’ longest-operating restaurants opens its doors on Bayshore.
2003
An arts district, officially
The Collier County Commission officially founds the Bayshore Arts District.
2015
Artists organize
Amanda Jaron co-founds Bayshore Arts and Business with neighbors including Michelle Tricca, Kara Heaslip and Barbara Daltorio. It later becomes Bayshore Arts District, Inc.
2020
The art plan prevails
Two years after Bayshore first asked, a public art plan for the district is approved.
2023
A fresh start
Bayshore Arts District, Inc. reactivates its 501(c)(3) status and launches a new website and logo, as plans move forward for a vintage cinema at the former Del’s corner.
2026
A nonprofit home for the arts
TWiST Gallery, the neighborhood’s first nonprofit gallery, opens with artist studios and classes.
